Vancouver waterfront mixed-use master plan, Vancouver WA

Recipient of the 2010 Washington State Governor’s Award for Design. In 2006, Boise Cascade closed their lumber mill in Vancouver, Washington and, with support from the City and Port, opened up 32 acres of waterfront property solely for private development. The Waterfront development has been charged by the City of Vancouver and the State of Washington to become a new urban focus for the region; affording Vancouver the hope of remaining relevant in both the local and regional economies. The combination of pedestrian-oriented urban “green” streets and parks, sensitive integration with Vancouver’s history and values, progressive planning, and communication strategies have allowed this project to gain overwhelming support both at the community and government levels.
